Description A fairy tale castle perched on a hillside guarding the entrance to the Taff Valley. Built for the Third Lord Bute in the late 19th Century, it is complete with an operational drawbridge and crowned with conical roofs. The interior continues the fantasy. Travel by Bus The nearest bus stop is approx. one km from the castle in the village of Tongwynlais. It is served by IBT service 26 which runs each hour between Cardiff and Tredegar (No Sunday service) and also by Stagecoach in South Wales service 132 which runs each half hour between Cardiff and Pontypridd/Rhondda Valley. On Sundays there is a 90-minute frequency on service 132. Travel By Train The nearest railway station is Taffs Well, which is served by trains on the Cardiff to Pontypridd line. Weekday services from / to Cardiff Central run at 15 minute frequencies for most of the day. Onward travel is by bus or a two km uphill walk from the railway station.
