Description
The old Lewis Merthyr colliery was closed in the early 1990s and one of the two pit head winding towers was rescued from demolition at the very last minute to form a fitting and dramatic symbol of the Welsh coal mining industry. You can savour the sights and smell and feel of deep coal mining at this important attraction.
Travel by Bus
Stagecoach in South Wales service 132 running between Maerdy and Cardiff stops almost outside the door. It runs at 30-minute frequency on weekdays and 90 minutes on Sundays.
Travel By Train
The nearest railway station is Trehafod, which is served by trains on the Cardiff to Treherbert line. Services run at 30 minute frequencies on weekdays. The Heritage Park is one km walk from the railway station.
